Ethiopia has not been made up on an overnight. It has taken thousands of years and many generations. Today’s Ethiopia is the result of blood and bone of our forefathers. The country, with its achievements and failure, is now in the hands of the youth to free it from the Woyane monster leaders. It is not an easy task for the young generation to decide its role in the making of democratic Ethiopia where peace, equality and justice prevail. This piece tries to give some suggestion on the role of the youth in the process of building of democracy in Ethiopia by permanently destroying the current Woyane regime.

The first thing I would suggest is that the young generation should be critical of the history of the country. Ethiopian history for the last twenty three years has been distorted by the ruling party and its allied ethnocentric scholars. The youth has been forced to learn the history of ethnic animosity and division as if this is the only history Ethiopia has. Ethno nationalist politicians and historians have been trying so hard to eliminate any social thread that kept the different ethnic groups together by promoting only the historical wounds which make up little potion to the whole history.

As a result the positive social history is shadowed by the negative ones. Ethiopian history is not all about war, conquest and domination. It is also peaceful interaction, tolerance and mix-ups. I would suggest the young generation to focus only on the later ones. In fact no one can deny that they were social injustices in the making of modern Ethiopia. However, there should be no single ethnic group to be held responsible for all past misconducts. The ruling elites camouflaged in a certain ethnic group did the abuse and exploitations. Thus, the role of the youth, regarding the history of the country, should not be to accuse the past generations for what they did and did not. It should rather by laying the democratic foundation by which most, if not all, historical misconducts can be addressed and healed.

The young generation should critically ask whether our culture is accommodative of democratic principles and values. Is democracy applicable in a house hold where the father is an absolute decision maker? Is democracy applicable in a culture where an individual is valued not by his ideas he/ she raised but by the position he or she held in government offices? Is democracy applicable in a country where government officials are considered as gods appointed not as elected among from the public? The young generation should reexamine the culture and came up with the modern one where there are fertile ground to grow democratic values and principles.

I believe that Ethiopia is now on a cross roads and it is the responsibility of the youth to decide which way to head on. We have experienced ethnic politics to the last twenty three and more years, thanks to the current savage Ethiopian government, and witnessed that it brought us nowhere. The young generation should say enough to such blood suckers ethnic politicians. It is now the times to fight these narrow minded dictators (TPLF) by standing on the side of those who have already waged war against them. It is not a pleasant option but it is what the illiterate Woyane leaders left on the table. The arrest of Ato Andargacew Tsege, Britsh nationality fighting for the freedom of Ethiopians by chair leading Ginbot 7 opposition party, by Woyane’s butchers left us sadden. But it also filled our hearts with hatred. The arrest of bloggers, journalists, and opposition parties’ leaders will never make us to give up the armed struggle that Ethiopian Patriotic Front and Ginbot 7 are undertaking on the soil of Eritrea against the current ruthless Ethiopian government, EPDRF. Now is the time for Ethiopian youths to interfere directly in the politics of this country and save it from falling by any means necessary including force. Now is the time for us to wage a war against ethnic division and no place should be left for those wicked people who are instruments to please the enemy. Now is the time for us, Ethiopian youths, to come together regardless of ethnic, religious, and political ground and work hard for the unity of Ethiopia and promotion of love, peace, justice and equality by bringing down this government.
