ABU DHABI — Saudi Arabia has fired thousands of foreign civil servants as part of a campaign against illegals.

The Civil Service Ministry has reported the termination of some 7,500 foreigners in the government in 2013.
The ministry’s Human Resource Development Fund said the dismissals took place in several government departments.
The Saudi government has reported nearly 75,000 foreign civil servants in the field of health and education.
The Civil Service Ministry was said to have contracted 3,200 foreigners for administrative and service positions.
The data was released amid a Saudi crackdown on illegal foreign labor. The government has reported the deportation of 1 million foreigners over the last nine months.
Officials said the new Saudi policy required ministries to examine their
foreign presence and ensure that kingdom nationals could not serve as
replacements.
The officials said government departments were required to dismiss
foreigners if their jobs could be taken over by Saudis.
