Owners of Desta, the Ethiopian Restaurant on Greenville, Shot to Death on the Porch of Their East Dallas Home

Read Time:50 Second

Amidst a cluster of Ethiopian businesses near Greenville Avenue and 635 sits Desta, “one of a few restaurants in Dallas with the patience” to make their own injera, the classic Ethiopian spongy bread, as our food critic wrote last year.

The owners of Desta were found dead on their porch just after midnight.

It’s a process that takes a lot of work, so the restaurant’s owners, 40-year-old Yayehyirad Lemma and 31-year-old Yenenesh Desta, reportedly worked long days. They were coming home from one of those long days last night when, police say, they were shot to death, on the porch of their home on the 5700 block of Marquita Avenue, just east of Greenville.

NBC5 broke the story this morning. According to several outlets, police are still looking for a gunman, and a motive. Witnesses told police they heard gunshots just after midnight, but there were no signs of a robbery. The couple had an 18-month-old baby, who was unharmed.
