DUBAI // A man was yesterday cleared of stealing Dh55,000 from a man in a street attack.

EP, a 23-year-old from Ethiopia, was accused of attacking SA, a 36-year-old Indian, as he headed to the Naif branch of Standard Chartered bank on April 9 this year to deposit money for his boss. He was said to have carried out the attack with four other men who remain at large.

Prosecutors said the five men beat the man to the ground before taking the money and running off. They said that the injured man gave chase and caught the Ethiopian before handing him into police.

When arrested the Ethiopian had no money on him, but prosecutors argued that this was because he had passed it on to an accomplice before he was caught.

However, the Ethiopian denied this and was cleared by the Criminal Court.

  1. We are told that the person who was carrying the money to the bank was an Indian but they arrested an Ethiopian. It is really funny but saddening. They just look alike, is that what it is ? Or was there something else ? I think the good Indian was playing a havoc. The money might surface in Bangalore.
