Second Annual International Conference of Ethiopian Women in the Diaspora

Organized by the Center for the Rights of Ethiopian Women (CREW)

Call for Paper

The Center for Rights of Ethiopian Women (CREW) is a non-governmental, non‐profit, non‐partisan, human rights and peace organization established to promote & educate the social, economic and legal rights of Ethiopian women in Ethiopia and worldwide.  CREW would like to see the rights of Ethiopian women are achieved and their full and equal human rights realized.  To that end, CREW is organizing the Second Annual Conference of Ethiopian Women in the Diaspora to be held on March 23, 2013 in Washington, DC, USA.  The theme of this conference is “End Violence against Ethiopian Women,” and this is in line with the theme of the 57th session of UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).  The primary objective of this conference is to build a common understanding on the different forms of violence against Ethiopian women, the magnitude, root causes of the problem, and come-up with strategies to end violence against Ethiopian women.

Numerous reports have come out showing violence against Ethiopian women has increased at an alarming rate.  Ethiopian women face increasing violence both in Ethiopia and in the Diaspora. For instance, domestic violence, trafficking in women, abduction, female genital mutilation (FGM) and early marriage are among those listed in the reports. Therefore, CREW’s Second Annual International Conference   will focus on the following areas:

  1. The root causes of violence against Ethiopian women
  2. Domestic Violence against Ethiopian women
  3. Trafficking in Women.
  4. Violence against Ethiopian women domestic workers in the Middle East Countries

CREW would like to invite   interested individuals to present papers on the above identified  areas  If you are interested please submit a one page abstract by February 15, 2013 addressed to the Program Committee by e-mail using ethiowomen@gmail.com

We look forward to hearing from you,

CREW Program Committee
